CHAPTER NINE

I had not seen or spoken to Leslie or Moe in weeks and although I know I hurt them both deeply, somehow I felt like I had given myself the worst of it. I went from having the love of my life and a very good thing, to having neither in a blink of an eye. Maleek was loving every bit of it. He basked in the idea that I was finally single and could be the man whore that he was, with no emotional hang ups. I just wasn’t about that life. I had to figure out how to fix things and that would be a task all in itself because neither one of them were taking my calls.

Today I was driving around aimlessly. I couldn’t think straight since the big incident. My creative juices were not flowing and it was affecting my work. I had not been able to write, produce or sleep, since everything happened and I was losing money by the day. I had to put an end to this. I felt so empty inside and I needed to change that. I was on the Van Wyck expressway and I needed to make a decision quickly. The fork in the road coming up would choose my destiny. The exit to the left, would take me to Leslie’s house, while the one on the right would take me to Monique’s crib. It was rapidly approaching and I had to decide who I loved more. I had to decide who I wanted to be with more. As the fork rapidly approached, I still had not made up my mind. At seventy miles an hour, I had to react quickly but this was no easy decision. I was right smack in the middle of the painted divider, headed for the wall, when at the last minute I swerved left headed towards Leslie’s. I wasn’t sure if I made the left because my heart told me to or if it was to avoid smashing into the wall but in any event I was on my way. I would swallow my pride and tell her exactly how I felt.

I pulled up in front of Leslie’s projects in my snow white Audi A8, with smoked tints. I jumped out, hit the alarm and proceeded towards her building. I made my way through the crowd of derelicts and thugs, as they pointed and whispered but I didn’t care. I was coming to claim what was rightfully mine. When I reached her building, I took the piss infested steps two at a time until I reached her floor. When I got to her apartment I knocked on the door and waited patiently for an answer. It wasn’t long before I could hear footsteps approaching the door.

“Who is it?” said Lez from the other side of the door.

“It’s me Prince baby.”

“What do you want?”

“I want...no, I need to talk to you.”

“Prince we don’t have nothing to talk about. Now move from in front my door.
